Flyball is a fast paced, tennis ball relay race for dogs. There are four dogs per team. Each dog sprints over four hurdles to catch a tennis ball released from a spring-loaded “flyball box” and then races back over the four hurdles so the next dog can go. All dogs can play, no matter breed, age, or previous training*. Flyball is a perfect activity for high-energy dogs and the people who love them. It’s also a great activity for any dog who just wants to have some fun and play with its person.
Classes are taught by Shirley Rand, a flyball instructor since 1999. Shirley first became interested in flyball 10 years ago and tried it with her German Shepherd, Abby. They both loved it and have been doing it ever since. They have competed in flyball up and down the East coast of the United States and Eastern Canada.
Shirley is captain of the Maine Coast Runners, the first flyball team in the state of Maine.
