K9 Nose Work® with Pam Belcher
The newest fun sport for dogs ... taking the country by its nose! K9 Nose Work uses your dog's natural instincts and channels them in this fun, exciting activity. You'll watch your dog "be a dog," happily, successfully exploring and locating the right scent box. There is nothing better for a dog lover than watching your dog do something that comes so naturally, that makes him or her so happy.
Introduction to Nosework
Prerequisite: Dogs must have basic obedience.
Dogs have an amazing sense of smell and a natural desire to hunt. This class focuses on teaching you how to encourage and develop your dog's natural scenting abilities by using their desire to hunt and their love of toys, food and exercise. It's a great class for your dog to have fun, build confidence, and burn lots of mental and physical energy and to find out just how good is your dog's nose.
Introduction to Odor
Prerequisite: Introduction to Nose Work, or instructor approval.
This class advances the dog’s scent discrimination skills taught in the basic nose work class. All dogs are taught to identify the same scent, a natural essential oil. Additionally, we introduce techniques and tactics for building better dog/handler teamwork. High food or toy motivation is beneficial for this class.
Continuing Nose Work
Prerequisite: Introduction to Nose Work and
Introduction to Odor or instructor approval
Continuing Nose Work is for dogs that have completed the Intro to Odor class and have met minimum proficiency in finding their initial target odor. This class will continue to develop handler skills and will introduce the teams to additional target odor(s), and focus on all the elements of K9 Nose Work®, Container searches, Interior searches, Vehicle searches and Exterior Searches.
Advance & Challenge
Prerequisite: Introduction to Nose Work,
Introduction to Odor
and Continuing Nose Work or instructor approval
For dogs and handlers who are working on odor only, the search areas will be larger and more complex. We will include vehicle searches, exterior, interior and container searches. For those who are interested in competing, our practice sessions will be geared towards preparing for ORTs and a NW1 trial. If you are not interested in formally competing, you and your dog will still appreciate the challenges presented in a supportive, low-key environment.

Flyball with Shirley Rand
Dogs should at least have some basic obedience. This class held off-site
Flyball races match two teams of four dogs each, racing side-by-side over a 51 foot long course. Each dog must run in relay fashion down the jumps, trigger a flyball box, releasing the ball, retrieve the ball, and return over the jumps. The next dog is released to run the course but can't cross the start/finish line until the previous dog has returned over all 4 jumps and reached the start/finish line. The first team to have all 4 dogs finish the course without error wins the heat.
